This got designers hooked on the apple interface and started the cult.

This is the reason Apple is popular with graphic designers, because back in the 90s Jobs had the clever marketing idea that he would give the computers to schools but with the caveat that they couldn't use anyone else's. Most schools use Solidworks because they get cheap licenses, but this is so that when students go out in the real world their first choice is Solidworks. Solidworks is an industry standard and relatively easy to use, but i feel they are overpriced based on clever marketing and not necessarily on value. They have several processes that run all the time and can't be disabled without uninstalling whose only purpose is to check if you paid your license fee. I don't mind paying for good software but they are pretty close to spyware in my opinion. I'm not a fan of how Autodesk does business. It's way cheaper and offers way more out of the box too. plus you can turn it on and off on the fly. Ugly as hell interface however, you can define history based (SolidWorks/Inventor), or true geometry parametric based (Creo/actual GD&T style definition). That being said, SolidEdge is the real champ. Yeah, the interface is mud and it's just a bit more annoying to model, but considering how everything else around it works better, I would argue for Inventor. They just offer more bang for you buck, and the price of subscription/year is roughly the same price of SolidWorks professional subscription per year. They offer 3DPDF with markup and STEP with market out of the box (as does literally everything other fucking CAD since about 2018). Easy compatibility with other SolidWorks users in the wild, lol you high?Īutodesk inventors assemblies and drawings are about 1000x more stable. It's products actually work with each other (or at all) no not really. Free storage solution, sorta kinda but not really. But it's a broken fucking program that's so unreliable and doesn't offer a ton of things from this decade. It runs smother (asterisks), it's easier to clicked edges and vertices, and is just generally cleaner. SolidWorks modeling experience IS better. Best bang for you buck, best of all worlds. My (humbly very experienced opinion): Autodesk simply offers more per dollar of product and is more stable, however admittedly, modeling for modeling, SolidWorks is generally a superior experience.
